Installing Netgear WG111v2 Wireless Adaptor

Asked by Popeye1962

Hi

I am absolutely brand new to Linux. Ubuntu has been recommended to me several times as a better alternative to Windows, so I thought I'd check it out. I'm therefore running Ubuntu directly from a disk before deciding whether to install it as my preferred operating system. However I can't get Ubuntu to recognise my Netgear WG111 v2 wireless adaptor. I have looked at some of the similar FAQs on here but really have no idea about using source code, so I don't know what is meant by "ndiswrapper" nor where to find it, or where to put it.
I'm hoping that some kind, patient soul will hold my hand and point me in the right direction.

Many Thanks

Actually, you don't need ndiswrapper. Try this:
1.Plug in adapter
2.Restart computer
3.Click on the little networks button. It is on the top right-hand side of the screen next to the time and the sound button. It has picture of two computers.
4.See if it says "Wireless Networks", and if so, see if the network you are trying to connect to is there.
5.If so click it
6.Do what is says (unless it says jump off a cliff, hit yourself in the face, smash the computer, etc.)

Can you help with this problem?
