Wi-fi randomly disconnects, then reconnects, but firefox no longer has access to internet

Asked by Robert James

I know this sounds like a wifi problem, but it's only this computer that does this.

The wifi icon on the top bar disconnects randomly, then immediately reconnects with no problem; it's been doing this for a while and I've been ignoring it as it posed no serious problem. But now after a seemingly random amount of time, whilst the icon says everything's fine, neither firefox or the ubuntu updater can access the internet.

Resetting the computer fixes the problem, until it happens again.

Other devices are fine, zero problems so it can't be the wifi, right? And it's not just firefox, it's the ubuntu updater too, so I'm thinking it's either a ubuntu issue or some issue with this computer in particular?

If anybody has any advice I'd be hugely grateful!

Thanks,

Robbie

Reboot the router as a good first step. They are computers and no infallible.

If you still have issues. What is the output of:

sudo lshw -C network; lsb_release -a; uname -a; sudo rfkill list

Thanks

Try:

echo "options carl9170 nohwcrypt=y" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/carl9170fix.conf > /dev/null

reboot to test

Is it OK then?

It does this so randomly I'll have to wait until tomorrow, unless it does it again before then. Thanks.
