"Runs on Windows 2000/XP/Vista" i.e. not Ubuntu.

The good news is, you can use MyspaceIM in Pidgin--go to Accounts->Manage, then Click Add, and select Protocol: MySpaceIM.

Some Windows programs can be run on Linux using WINE, but it doesn't seem like MySpaceIM is one of them: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=5007&iTestingId=28812

but what if you do not already have my space IM yet? because it is just asking for a screen name and password. how do I then download new myspace IM?

I assume you sign in with your MySpace username and password. Presumably, if you've got a MySpace account, it will automatically work for MySpaceIM.

You can't run the 'MySpaceIM' program on Ubuntu. It's a Windows program. But you can use the MySpaceIM service from a different program (Pidgin), and you'll still be able to chat to your friends in essentially the same way.
