Cannot download new programs

Asked by Daniel Aguirre

hi, I recently installed nginx and kopozer, as well as some brushes, directly from their websites (i.e. Didn't use Applications>Add/Remove). Now when I want to use (but I don't mean because of that) add/remove it shows:

Shane Fagan:

Thank you very much for your help, it is really appreciated. It seems I am connected to the Internet, since I have been able to log to Launchpad and ask a question.

Best wishes,

Daniel Aguirre

P.D. I would also like to note that I have already googled for an answer and checked the related questions here at launchpad. Tried every suggestion, but with no results.

I can help you I saw the line:
W: Failed to fetch cdrom:[Ubuntu 7.10 _Gutsy Gibbon_ - Release i386 (20071016)]/dists/gutsy/main/binary-i386/Packages.gz Please use apt-cdrom to make this CD-ROM recognized by APT. apt-get update cannot be used to add new CD-ROMs

Go to software sources
I dont know where that is in kde but in gnome its
System>Administration>Software sources
Un-check all the box in third party software that says "cdrom with ubuntu 7.10 'gutsy gibbon'"

Dear Shagan:

Thank you again for your generous help. It served me in that now the line you mention disappeared after applying the changes you indicated me. However, I tried the option "Download from:" and then "select best server" a dialog turned that said: "No situable server. Please check your internet connection." I am currently working at that. Thanks for the help, it helped me progress!

Daniel

On an Ubutu forum (the best option for support besides Launchpad), I found a threat that discussed anon-proxy-or something like that, don't remember). It said that it sets a variable, which causes me to get this result. After removing it, the rest of my problem was solved. Thank you all!
