How do I get Hardy on an AMD64 to recognize my webcam?
I have an HP USB webcam that came with my AMD-64 dual-core system. It doesn't recognize the cam in any video rendering programs. I tried MAKEDEV with it plugged in, but nothing still. I also added the Jasper libs, nothing, and tried that blognux site but no AMD64. Anyone know how I can accomplish this?
Thanks.

Thanks, but I already installed Cheese. It looks like it's picking up my TV tuner because it displays a color bar with a small window that's only snow. I don't have the antenna hooked up to the tuner. But, sadly, no webcam picture. Do you know how to switch inputs?

Yes, it appears a color bar when cheese doesn't recognize a camera, nothing to do with the antenna.
It happened to me, but after installing and using Camera (which didn't work) I could use Cheese, and whenever anything strange happens to cheese, I use camera. I dont get anything from camera, as it says 'no camera', but after that cheese works fine. I am no expert, don't have any clue and this is kind of funny to me, but maybe you should give it a try if everything else fails.

I tried to install an app called camera.app in Synaptic, but there were too many dependency problems. I did a check on HWINFO & got this on the camera:

Does it have something to do with the driver? (snd-usb-audio) It has a built-in microphone...

scott@scott-
What's THAT about? Also, my /proc/bus/usb folder doesn't have any files in it, and it's read-only.
I'm sorry, I'm new to Ubuntu and it just keeps getting more confusing.
