Totem opens folders instead of Nautilus

Asked by Asset

This issue is especially related to "Bookmarked" folders which are found in the Places menu. When I click to any of them (ex. Documents) ubuntu opens totem(adding the content of the folder into playlist) instead of opening folder with nautilus. But if I try to open Computer or CD/DVD, everything works correctly.

Which release are you using? Have you modified some settings in Gnome/Totem/Nautilus?

I've used Ubuntu 8.04 before, then few days ago I did an upgrade to 8.10 and got a problems. I didn't modify any of the settings related to Totem or Nautilus, but I'm not sure that upgrade didn't.

An easy solution would be:
1) Open Computer from gnome Places menu;
2) Right click on Filesystem & bring up Properties window;
3) Select 'Open With' tab;
4) Verify that 'Open Folder' is the selected application;
5) Try again!

Hmm...that's nice, my nautilus UI has frozen and CPU is at 100% with the properties window open...didn't happen 45 secs ago when I did it prior to writing this answer............I hate killing nautilus...

Hope yours works better than mine. (P.S. - When are they dropping nautilus already?)

Great, now every time I open the properties window on Filesystem it freezes. Hitting the X in the corner closes it without incident and my nautilus file browser comes back to life.

Properties on my iPod and CD drives works just fine...

Screw nautilus.

Hi Derek,
thanks for your response that solved my problem. Don't know why this problem has appeared, but I think that ubuntu developers should pay attention to it....
thanks again...

For some bizarre reason, I had the exact same: after upgrading from Hardy to Intrepid, opening a folder launched totem.
I used Dereks solution, and that works fine for me.
Thanks!
