Was installing Ubuntu8.04, couldn't partition, now No OS

Asked by Isabel

1) Was installing Ubuntu8.04 using the Unetbootin installer (don't have a CDROM).
2) After downloading files, rebooted according to message instructions
3) Ubuntu came up: double-clicked on the install icon on the desktop. Launched the Ubuntu graphical installer.
Went OK until I got to the selection part about partitioning. I didn't need to partition because I wanted to wipe out WInXP. So I selected entire disk and continued
4) Error message as I got to 15% of loading: The ext3 file system creation in partition #1of SCSI1(0,0,0) (sda) failed.

5) Clicked back to try again. Same thing, selected entire disk, same error message.
6) So I discontinued thinking I could try another day with more information.
7) Restarted. Wanted to go back to XP to find some solution to the problem
8) No OS: Error loading OS message

Please help. Thank you

You did not use CD-ROM to install the Ubuntu. The ISO image is stored in the hard disk, and you want to wipe out windows so you selected entire disk. This will cause an error.

May be you should configure the partition and remove the windows after installing completely.

Thank you! Will do that. Now how do I get an OS to do this?

Maybe you will have to load your OS with USB because you do not have a CDROM.
You may Google to get full steps to do this.
