Can I Tweak Ext2 Filesystem?

Asked by taurus

I found the following website on how to tweak ext2 and ext3 filesystems. First of all, I don't know what filesystem I'm currently using, but I imagine it's ext2, if I'm not mistaken. Secondly, I'd like to tweak my filesystem, if possible. The heading on the website is: 'Filesystems'. And the link to the site is:

http://ubuntusoftware.info/Howto_tweak_ubuntu_ultimate.html#filesystems

Please guys, let me know!

If you have a standard Ubuntu install you have ext3 file system. If you changed something at install then I don't know. As for tweaking the fs you can do quite a lot. Linux is very flexible that way. However, the more you tweak the more likely you will jack something up. If you mess up the fs then you may end up loosing all your data. Ubuntu defaults are set for security and trouble free operation. If you change things then you risk loosing those features. Personally, I don't see much there worth messing with. Hard core users may set things up that way but then they also know what they are doing (and probably run gentoo or slackware).
