Connecting my modem via Cat 5

Asked by martyna007

I have bought a D Link DSL 320T to try create a wireless network in the house. I already have a router but the modem i currently had didnt come with a CAT 5 connection.

The problem Im having is that I can't get to the stage where you type the 192.168.1.1 to configure the modem, the ethernet connection states that its working and the green light is present but page cannot be displayed keeps coming up. Surely this must be an issue with the ethernet connection as when i connect the cat 5 to my laptop it lets me configure it.

I have flushed the DNS but this didnt work either, it is currently just staying 'Aquiring Mac Address"

Any suggestions please? Its driving me mad!!

You lost me.

What kind of modem are you talking about? ADSL? traditional modem for a phone connection? ISDN modem?

How did you connect it before? via serial interface? via USB?

Thanks

The ADSL modem does not have an ethernet port? What is the model of the modem and router that you own?

Sorry. I see that you have a D Link modem. According to the specs it has a single Ethernet port.

"Single Ethernet port ADSL/ADSL2/+ modem - Ideal for adding Internet to a single PC or Mac."

"Specifications

    * 1 x RJ11 port for connection to ADSL microfilter
    * 1 x 10/100Base-T Ethernet port for connection to PC"
