full ubuntu distro for programming needs

Asked by John McIntyre

I just bought a lenovo laptop with ubuntu as the OS, but it doesn't even have the tree command installed. I want to get an ubuntu distro with ALL of the packages I might need, but I only see one-cd packages on sites like cheapbytes - that can't contain all of the libraries found on a five-cd distro like fedora core (which I'm currently using on my desktops). WHERE CAN I GET A FULL DISTRIBUTION??

Thanks altogether in advance !

You can go in for an ubuntu dvd like a fedora dvd if you like and you can buy the dvd for cheap at amazon instead of creating an image and downloading...

Thanks so much! I found my way through amazon to osdisc.com, and
ordered the dvd this evening. It's
just a shame I couldn't get there myself.

I hope the dvd has the full complement of compilers
etc, but either way I'm glad I got your input.

Have a great day and a great life!

this is for Sergey Timoshin,

Thanks a bunch (bolshoye spaseebuh) for your
suggestion, but I just have a dial-up connection
and that would be sleeshkom myedlennu for any
major downloads, so ya predpochetayu kupeet the
dvd ez Amazona. Eemyay kharoshee dyen ee tagzhe preeyatnaya zhizn.

Well ubuntu is more of desktop pc for users that's why it comes in a cd . try installing packages individually according to your programming needs or better if you switch from ubuntu to fedora which willl give you all kinds of programming tools when you install ..make sure to select those tools(packages) when you install fedora

I've already gone through fedora core 1, 2, 3, 5, (bad luck with 6 and 7) and 8. I have 5 & 8 on PCs now. Laptop
is a minimal ubuntu install (doesn't even have tree command implemented). I have the ubunto dvd now, and am
going to try install on PC. thanks, gracias, spaseebu, danke, arigato, kamsahamneedah to all.
