wine is not harmful to your system...but not all windows programs can be run through wine.
if you have installed wine on your system, then you can run chrome setup by right-clicking the setup file and selecting "run with wine emulator"

Google Chrome is known to do not work correctly under Wine, at least with Ubuntu provided version.
You can try using deb package from http://www.winehq.org/site/download-deb wich is new and may work better.

Use Cross Over Chromium: http://www.codeweavers.com/services/ports/chromium/

It uses a modified version of wine that supports google chrome. Download is at right.
