Hello Steve,

Could you type in a Terminal (menu Applications > Accessories > Terminal) the command "ls /dev/sd*" (without any storage device plugged on usb or firewire please) and paste here it's output ?

It should show the address of storage devices and partitions detected, and help us to solve your problem.

Another question : Do you see them in the left column of Nautilus (File Manager) ?

Have a nice day.

You say...
"I can't see my second harddrive with nfts and fat32 partions on it, no problem when I boot windows from grub. So the actual drive is ok."

Not so sure...

Please make sure you Windows partition have no errors on it.

Booting in Windows force an a complete hard disk check.

Then reboot again in Windows and make a clean shutdown.

Be sure to boot in Windows twice and to get a clear Windows shutdown.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the answers. Here is the info
steve@steve-office:~$ ls /dev/sd*
/dev/sda /dev/sda2 /dev/sdb /dev/sdb2
/dev/sda1 /dev/sda5 /dev/sdb1 /dev/sdb5

I cant see them in file manager

But if I boot from a live cd they both hard drives show up.

Regards Steve
