Problem booting XP after loading Ubuntu

Asked by Andrew M

I've installed Ubuntu and it is working well. However, I still need to run XP. When I select it from the boot menu I get a message "ntldr not found". Can anyone help?

There is some evidence, that it sometimes helps to change the root command in the grub menu (/boot/grub/menu.lst) into rootnoverify for the windows XP menu entry and to check that it points to the right partition

i.e

change

root (hdX,Y)
chainloader +1

into

rootnoverify (hdX,Y)
chainloader +1

Also make sure hdX,Y points to the right place. the first drive is hd0, and the first partition on the first drive is hd0,0 (or sd0,0 for scsi, serial drive, or if ide is mapped to scsi/serial).

I hope this helps
