Cannot install network printer (HP Officejet 7200 Series All-in-One)

Asked by mikeys

Cannot install properly HP Officejet 7200 Series All-in-One network printer. Have 2 computers on network currently that can print on it - one had Win XP, the other one is Ubuntu 6.10 - ethernet connections are OK. The Ubuntu computer also has Win XP and when logged to Win HP, I can print OK on HP Officejet 7200 Series All-in-One network printer - no problem. Tried system-administration-printing-new printer-then put in URL of 7200 printer - 192.168.2.120 - should I type it as http://192.168.2.120 or just 192.168.2.120? Then a driver is suggested, hit forward, the icon for 7200 printer appears, but when I try to print it does not print anything - when I check under properties, it says network host 192.168.2.120 is busy, will retry in 30 sec, but nothing happens. Please help with installation. Thank you.

Just went to synaptic and added some more hp drivers - will try again - but please let me know how to solve this problem. This 7200 printer is also a scanner - how would I be able to use as scanner from my Ubuntu machine?? Currently, onl;y my webcam is recognized erroneously as scanner. Please advise.

Try System->Preferences->HPLIB Toolbox. This tool usually does everything for you.

There is no HPLIB Toolbox under Preferences. I have installed all hp-related drivers already from synaptic. Please advise.

Solved it another via CUPs browser. Network printers should be DETECTABLE and installed automatically - please fix in future version.
