Can you change system restore dates once system restore has been completed?

Asked by busterbean

If I open system restore with a very recent date, can I go back and do another system restore at an earlier date? If so, what happens to all the data files in between?

I used win98 and NT and after i always used Linux so i never used system restore but here there is a tutorial http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial56.html

Please try Ubuntu... you can install it on the same pc that you are using Windows.

Please don't install Ubuntu using Wubi so you can use Ubuntu as a rescue system to clean damaged Windows (viruses and other issue )

If you want more info please ask...

Thank you

Ok thank you.

Do you know if the system restore keeps files as they were last saved or as of the system restore point date? I do a lot of spreadsheets, and I don't want to lose information that has been entered. I know I can back up, but I really want to know what will show up on the chosen system restore date.

Thanks again for the help

Taked from here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306084

System Restore takes a "snapshot" of critical system files and some program files" and stores this information as restore points. You can use these restore points to return Windows XP to a previous state.

So please refer to Windows help site...

Thank you

System restore will not backup you spreadsheets or any of your data. As marcobra stated it only takes a ¨snapshot of critical system files¨. If your interested in backing up your data, you ideally you should have a second hard drive to backup to.

A good program for data backup is SyncBack
