Wireless check

Asked by The Doctor Forever

How do I check to see if my computer is able to pick up wireless networks? I'm sorry if I'm being annoying with no detail but I am only 12 but well ahead of myself in the areas of computers. If you need information, say so and I will find it. I won't be able to test anything until tomorrow because I need an extra cable to connect up my computer to a power source.

See. There is an icon in the top panel showing 'Network Connections'. Click it and select the Wireless Network you want to connect.

Hope this helps

Yes, I know how to connect but how do I find out if my computer supports wireless internet. I am using my Mac now but there are things I need to do on my Linux because it's a kind of school project, I have a computer and when I get back to school, I teach people how to use it and I need the internet.

If you can pick up wireless networks (as in, wi-fi, 802.11b/g, or whatever else you want to call it), then when you click the icon for "Network Connections", it should have something like "Wireless networks". See, for example: http://www.eioba.com/files/user46/etchnetmgr_2830_29.jpg

If you're still not sure, bring up a command line and enter "ifconfig -a"--the result will list all your network devices. If you post it here, we can see what's what.

Can you help with this problem?
