usb-creator-gtk crashes on start: invalid start byte

Asked by Adrián Alcolea Moreno

usb-creator-gtk crashes on start with the message:

    An unhandled exception occurred:
'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0xa5 in position 0: invalid start byte

My ubuntu version is trusty, and I alredy tried:

    sudo apt-get purge usb-creator-gtk
    sudo apt-get clean
    sudo apt-get autoremove
    sudo apt-get upgrade
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install usb-creator-gtk

Still the same.

If you run:

sudo usb-creator-gtk

Does it run OK?

No. It throws the same exception.

Does Unetbootin work OK?

I tried Unetbootin.

It seems to work ok, but I cannot boot with the created usb.

Nevertheless, starts and seems to work, so I think the problem with usb-creator-gtk does not affect Unebootin.
