Why not try a newer version of Ubuntu? E.g. 6.06 or 6.10 (even 7.04)

I'm pretty certain one of them will work, because they're newer. They'll even work faster ;)

otherwise, try booting with the options: noapic nolapic.

That motherboard's parallel ATA implementation is not currently supported under linux, you might want to try 7.04, but I have had no luck running 6.10 on my box, which uses an identical motherboard. Sorry.

As telepheedian just confirmed too, 6.10 doesn't seem to work on that board either, so you're left with the option to try out 7.04 (feisty). It works without a hitch for me, maybe it'll work as well for you too ;)

Another option is to check what kernel version does support parallel SATA, and make your own install CD with that kernel. This isn't that straight forward though, so I'd try feisty first.

Have you tried 7.04? It comes out in just over a week. The motherboard you are using is relatively new, and version 6.10 of Ubuntu is nearly 6 months old now.

not tried 7.04 yet , my net connection is'nt really fast and i cannot download and try every version that comes out , it would be very helpful if the exact version of linux that supports my motherboard is made known to me and i download only that .

Well Ubuntu 7.04 uses pretty much the latest kernel (2.6.20) which is what you need, and that's why I suggested you use it. I too have a core 2 duo based desktop and run 7.04 on it very well.

If you can boot the 6.10 live CD, open a terminal and get the output of the following two commands:-

lspci
lspci -n

We can definately confirm the likelyhood that Linux will work on your machine.

However you will need a version of linux that boots on your machine to be able to run those commands in the first place. If I were you I would wait a week and download 7.04 when it is released on the 19th. Possibly you can get a friend to download it for you, or perhaps contact your local Linux User Group?

I have 7.04 right now, when I find the time to install it, i will tell you if it is worth the download.

Can you help with this problem?
