clean machine Hardy heron won't load eeks what do I do now? need help to get started

HI! brand new to ubuntu started with free download . live session . Impressed so I bought the full hardy heron . my DVD didn't load it I bought a Multi and checked for compatibility. It was tried again nothing . found section on live disk load I386 it started and it went on and on line such and such blocked. Now I am at a loss . Paid for it and I don't seem to be able to use it . Can any one Help I have a clean machine with no operating system .

Try with a new ubuntu {CD Downloaded freely from www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download ] and install it.

Latter you can use your DVD to install all other applications for your system.

The only difference B/W your Free CD and DVD will be the number of applications available.

Instead of buying you could have downloaded it freely . . :)

Hi I have a HP Pavilion 15 mos old , drive controller went south. My local computer store guy gave me a copy of Ubuntu 8.04 and told me I could run the system from the CD which I did. He also suggested I could install the system on a USB Drive. I did the research purchased a cruzer 4GB, went through the install fine, when system did it's first reboot, it spit out the Install CD and booted sucessfully off the USB Drive, prompted me for credentials, accepted response and then sits at a pretty screen which looks kinda mauve but doesn nothing else (1hr so far).
