Having problems booting

Sometimes when i go to boot ubuntu it will only get to the screen with the loading bar and just continue doing that. I may need to reatart a few times to get it to work or i will just go into recovery mode then to regular boot. I am using the latest version of ubuntu and am a noob to linux.

Go with a fsck to ensure all your hard disks sectors and partitions are fine.

if possible do a disk de-fragmentation.

Be sure to have latest stable release Ubuntu 8.04.1 Hardy Heron
