Do you use a different resolution/refresh rate when you logged in then before ?

I followed the 2nd example you sent, uninstalled usplash and usplash theme Ubuntu, it took longer to shut down and reboot and I still had the screen flashing until i typed in my screen name and password, then it was ok.
I then reinstalled both with Synaptic and the same thing happened the screen still flashed until I typed in my screen name and password again it was ok.
How about just uninstalling the splash theme Ubuntu, do you have any more ideas. Thank you Ed

hmm, sticky wicket,

what about if you press keys whilst the splash screen is flickering, will that stop it, or does it HAVE to be login screen

Thank you for your message, I did not try what you said, but I did solve the problem, I switched monitors, reset the resolution and it works fine now. thank you ED Benish
