Gedit crashes on attempt to set the cursor position in the middle of the text.

Asked by Sergei Pikalev

BQ Aquaris m10.

Suddenly found that gedit is too buggy. Trying to edit typos on 2-3 words back, I try to move cursor position to necessary place and edit text. After I return cursor to the end of the text to continue typing, gedit corrupts text disordering all entered chars.

After several repositioning of cursor gedit crashes. Just disappears from screen. Looses all changes.

I create the question because it's a way to bug creation.

Its not a way to create a bug, you can create a bug by running:

ubuntu-bug gedit

Questions are not bug reports.

Wrong answer.

"ubuntu-bug gedit" command says me that "gedit" package is not istalled. Although, gedit is installed and I use it.

Output of some commands:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ uname -a
Linux ubuntu-phablet 3.10.93+ #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Aug 9 19:16:14 UTC 2016 aarch64 aarch64 aarch64 GNU/Linux

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ lsb_release -crid
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 15.04
Release: 15.04
Codename: vivid

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~$ apt-cache policy gedit
N: Unable to locate package gedit

It's because we're talking about ubuntu touch, not usual desctop version. So, other commands does not say about gedit.

Ubuntu touch gedit application located here:

/custom/click/com.ubuntu.puritine/0.12/libertine-data/libertine-container/puritine/rootfs/usr/bin/gedit

The beginning of README file says:

---------- quote ----------
This is version 3.10.4 of gedit. gedit is a small and lightweight UTF-8 text
editor for the GNOME environment.
---------- end of quote ----------

Ubuntu Vivid is EOL (end of life) for over a year now
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial. Xenial is LTS and supported til April 2021.

Ok. Could you please ask Canonical to provide Xenial based ubuntu touch build? I'll wipe out Vivid from my BQ Aquaris M10 device as soon as I will be sure Xenial build exists.

Sorry, but unfortunately your answer is kind of mockery. You should know that there are no mobile ubuntu version younger than Vivid.

Can you help with this problem?
