You have booted the OS. The Server install disc has a barebones user interface and is designed specifically for running services such as Web servers, database servers, etc. In other words, most servers aren't used to physically sit at them and use them.

Instead, you want to download and install the Desktop disc. :) The Ubuntu Desktop has everything you need as a Windows user coming into the Linux world (Web Browser, E-mail, etc.).

In fact, you must to change your mind, You will see that learning how works your PC is know more about technology, And will see that know how and were to make CLICKs is not Technologie.

It is a very change in Paradigm, but, you don't need a GUI to use a Server.

I suggest you that try to a Ubuntu Desktop (It have the same power of a Server but have all ready installed the GUI and their applications) Then when know better the Desktop, will understand the Server easy.

Good Luck!!! and "Welcome to the real world!" ;)

OK ryan, I understand now. For an overview of Ubuntu Server, check out:

 * https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/index.html

For specifics on setting up a Web server, check out:

 * https://help.ubuntu.com/8.04/serverguide/C/httpd.html

In a nutshell, you'll need to make sure the Apache Web server is installed (see the Web server guide above) and then start uploading your files to /var/www.

The links in the above server guide will give an overview on setting up an Ubuntu Web server as well as getting files onto the system.
