Can't Change Resolution Intel 915

Asked by BMLaCore

I know that this question had been asked but none of the provided anwsers have solved the problem. I am not able to change the resolution from 1024 X 768 with a refresh rate of 60. I have attempted to edit my xorgconf file but it has not solved it. When I look at the file it tells me that I should be able to change the resolution to several other options, however when I got to System - Prefrences- Screen Resolution they are not there. I have installed 915resolution and edited that file to reflect a higher resolution, this worked but after a full reboot I was back to normal. Editing the 915resolution file after that reboot did not result in any new change. I have added resolutions using "sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg" these are added to my xorg.conf file no new resolutions are truly availiable. I am on Edgy 6.10. Thanks for all your help.

Here is my xorg.conf file
# /etc/X11/xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
#
# This file was generated by dexconf, the Debian X Configuration tool, using
# values from the debconf database.
#
# Edit this file with caution, and see the /etc/X11/xorg.conf manual page.
# (Type "man /etc/X11/xorg.conf" at the shell prompt.)
#
# This file is automatically updated on xserver-xorg package upgrades *only*
# if it has not been modified since the last upgrade of the xserver-xorg
# package.
#
# If you have edited this file but would like it to be automatically updated
# again, run the following command:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

Ignore the unhelpful jackass above.

Here's one resource:

http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu:Feisty#How_to_Correct_the_Graphics_Resolution_.28Intel.29

and here's the package containing the drivers:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/feisty/x11/xserver-xorg-video-intel

I had the same issue. What I had to do is install the package above and manually tweak my xorg.conf file much like you have been doing. I got it to work after a bit of futzing. I'm not a programmer, but my suspicion is that the system needs the driver package to be able to display 1280x800.

Good Luck!
