i downlade a video from the internet and then try to watch it in movie player but when i press play it dosent play

i downloaded a video from the internet and try to watch it but it doesn't play it wants to start but it can't
i tried on movie player and steal having the same problem so i don't know why i cant play a video of what i downloaded please help me to see my videos!!!!

What movie player?

What format is file you are trying to play?

Have you installed the appropriate codecs?
