Cannot play dvd ripped with acidrip in my home dvd player

Asked by marco.pallotta

I'm spending many and many hours to rip my DVDs into a format that my dvd player (majestic dvx 269) can plays but, unfortunately, with no success. I tried .avi (with lavc codec and with xvid codec), either with the option --fourcc DIVX or without it but my DVD player says that the file format aren't known for it. I also tried .mpg with codec lavc (and with vcodec=mpeg1video) but my dvd player shows me a blank screen when I try to play the movie.
I all cases with totem I can play all the above .avi and .mpg files.
My DVD player seems to work ok with other DIVX files (not made with linux).

I also asked to majestic if there is a firmware for my dvd player but I'm waiting their replay.

Is there anyone that can help me (I don't know it there are some options usefull to play .avi divx movies, for example, in the most of home dvd player)?

I have found what was the problem about .mpg files: the problem was in display size. In fact I setup a too big file format (1000x563) when the movie wasn't played. Ripping my DVD (with acidrip) with a lower format (720x576) solved my problem.

I haven't yet found a solution to play my divx files created with acidrip.

The solution for divx is that in mencoder (and with acidrip as well) you have to include the option -ffourcc DIVX to make a dvd player complaint divx file.
