nm-applet used to have 2nd icon for wifi-now gone. 1st ok for eth0 use.

Asked by robert Newton

nm-applet useless to connect to wifi. I can't sell ubuntu services if it won't work on wifi!

1st icon near battery enabled wifi. 2nd left of keyboard indicator !!now gone!! scanned for ssid's.

Use 1st nm-applet to 'create new wifi network' to help w nmcli networkManager work.
Then fix all wildly wrong defaults under 'edit connections'. Is this where it broke?

So finally sudo 'nmcli connection up my-GUEST' works!

Here are some tries:
# nm-applet &
(nm-applet:22166): libnm-WARNING **: (nm-access-point.c:285):\
nm_access_point_connection_valid: runtime check failed: (ap_ssid != NULL)

# nmcli -c y -s -a connect up id RHGUEST
Error: Connection activation failed.

(nm-applet:22166): nm-applet-CRITICAL **: get_menu_item_for_ap:\
 assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed

# nmcli -c y -s -a connect up ifname wlp7s0 ap RHGUEST

(nm-applet:22166): nm-applet-CRITICAL **: get_menu_item_for_ap:\
 assertion 'dup_data.hash != NULL' failed

Have you tried wicd? You will need to remove network-manager after the install and then reboot.

If you run:

sudo iwlist scan

Do you see networks?
