can't edit *.mpg.avi x-msvideo file

Asked by fritsmartfu

I got an important video file made from a Sony analog camera and digitised with a windoz computer a pinnacle stereo card and PCTV- vision program.
To use the video, some parts need to removed (edited) but KINO and AVIDEMUX can not open the file.
The file is from a *.mpg.avi type and when I search for the properties I get: mime type: video/x-msvideo.

Is this file to edit with some program in UBUNTU 6.10, or wich settings should I change. I'm not a programmer but I like to use UBUNTU?

Thank you

Have you tried installing w32codecs from the medibuntu repositories? Instructions for exactly what to do are available at:

Can you help with this problem?
