HP-1050-J410 Series Printer stopped scanning w/ Simple Scan

Asked by Lester S

Hello, I'm in the middle of a refinance and I need the scan function for my HP- Deskjet-1050-J410 Series printer which used to work before Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, don't have time for exhaustive search for answer. Also noticed printer icon doesn't show in top menu bar like before.
Thanks

I found "apt-get install hplip-gui" which fixed that. Now when I try to do and upgrade for latest hp driver in terminal I get:

lessho@lessho-Inspiron-660s:~$ sudo apt-get install hplip-3.16.11.run
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
N: Ignoring file '20auto-upgrades.ucf-dist' in directory '/etc/apt/apt.conf.d/' as it has an invalid filename extension
E: Unable to locate package hplip-3.16.11.run
E: Couldn't find any package by glob 'hplip-3.16.11.run'
E: Couldn't find any package by regex 'hplip-3.16.11.run'

File is on desktop and "allow executing file as program" box is checked in file permissions properties.

Let's tidy up first, then we can install the file you downloaded, which isn't installed in the way you have tried.

If you run:

cat -n /etc/apt/sources.list.d/20auto-upgrades.ucf-dist

Thanks

OK that must have been sorted. What is the output of:

sudo updatedb; locate hplip-3.16.11.run

Thanks

As I said in my first reply, you don't install the file that way.
chmod +x ./hplip-3.16.11.run
./hplip-3.16.11.run

Will run the installer. The chmod command marks it as executable

That worked. I will make a note about the chmod.
Thanks!
