Asked by corrado venturini

I installed Ubuntu 17.04 unity from the daily: Ubuntu 17.04 "Zesty Zapus" - Alpha amd64 (20170118)
corrado@corrado-Z2:~$ uname -a
Linux corrado-Z2 4.9.0-12-generic #13-Ubuntu SMP Mon Jan 9 20:06:25 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

when i click the dash icon in the launcher the dash opens, remains some seconds with .. searching and then: sorry, there is nothing that matches ... If I click on the dash plugin for applications i see only the dash plugins. Applications appear only when I enter some text in the search for ...
The dash works fine in another 17.04 installed some time ago.

I suggest you report a bug.

Zesty is not ready and not stable. If you are happy to put up with issues and want to report bugs to get the release ready for 13th April then by all means use Zesty. If you want a release that works then I suggest you wipe the install off and do a clean install of Xenial (Ubuntu 16.04).

Xenial is LTS and supported until April 2021.

Zesty is still in Alpha 1 stage so issues and errors are to be absolutely expected.

I have also Ubuntu 12.04, 14.04 and 16.04 on different partitions of my desktop to have a stable system and to compare behavior.
I'm using 17.04 hoping to help developers. You suggest to open a bug, but the only way i know is 'ubuntu-bug -w' to open a bug against a program running in an open window. now the dash window closes as i try to do something. may you suggest how open a bug? thanks.

Run:

ubuntu-bug unity-lens-applications

And this will start the process for you

See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs for other options and parameters than "-w" for the ubuntu-bug program.

There are also other possibilities, e.g. a "create bug report" link on this question page.

Can you help with this problem?
