"open" questions remain unanswered ?

Asked by ubuntustarter

It seems a lot of questions remain unanswered on the launchpad or on other Ubuntu forums, including my one question. Being a new Ubuntu tester, this with the objective to replace Microsoft, it makes it very hard for for a newbee to find its way in Ubuntu, even after having spend hours, days, weeks, reading everything on the net that might of interest for using Ubuntu.

What decides if a question is answered, or if a question remains open ?

Is there a way to to find somebody that will actually look and take care of the asked questions, allowing a newbee to move forward ?

Thanks for the (maybe) reply.

There are a lot of questions asked in Launchpad everyday.
We try to get to all of them but time is a factor. Generally what decides if a question is answered is if the person who gives up their time can answer that question. Ubuntu's objective is not to replace Microsoft but to be useful, in the hope that people will use it and respect it in a market that microsoft dominates. Launchpad is supposed to be used as an area to ask technical questions. The person who is asking the question should search for the answer using google or searching for the answer using a forum like ubuntu forums. Here is the url for ubuntu forums.
http://ubuntuforums.org/

Hope that clarifies

Hi Shane, thanks a lot for your reply.
Although it appeared to me that Ubuntu, is a super-super platform offering a very great number of advantages, I still have some big issues, preventing me to use it in a efficiant way.

I gess that 99.9 % of the people that start using Ubuntu want to move from Windows to Ubuntu (as it is the case for me) this for a lot of different reasons. The remaining 0.1 % being the smarter guys that started with Linux right away from the begining...

I started by creating an account on "Ubuntuforums" for my questions, where I have the same question pending, on which I will probably not have a answer anyway.

After one week, I tryed launchpad, also without success, this after having read 1000'S op pages about Ubuntu and Samba, on several weeks, and hours and hours of testing (I even had a message form the Ubuntu OS saying that my disk had be mounted to many times and that a forced verification was needed ...).

So, is there another or a quicker way to find the answers to some questions one might have, or is waiting for a "maybe" answer the only possibility ?

Thanks a lot,

Frans

I dont really know. What my point is that most of the questions asked in launchpad have already been answered many times before and we cant get around to answer every question. If you need to find something to do with a particular project try their homepage. For info on samba try:
http://us3.samba.org/samba/
Or
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SettingUpSamba

Hope that helps

Hi,
just for the record, this means obviously the file system check every 30 bootings, which is default and a message about this procedure appears on the screen.
