Can't "burn" CD--no info on DL site!

Asked by Tom Darby

Nothing on the download site said anything about "burning" a CD! I do not have a CD burner, so have I wasted my time DL-ing Ubuntu 6.10??

If you dont want to or cant burn the CD ISO image there is an alternate method to installing which doesnt require a CD to be burned.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromWindows

I have not used this method myself but I understand it is useful in your situation.

Never mind... I have worse problems... the program, instlux, which your link referred to, doesn't work. I install it, windows reboots, and when it comes back on, instlux asks to be uninstalled! What's up with that? I'd really like to get Ubuntu installed somehow, I thought it was just like any windows software, click on it and it installs. I have the 6.10 desktop iso in a folder, waiting...

Installing off the CD is really the best way to go in my opinion. Do you have any friends or relatives who have CD burners? Alternatively you could order a CD from the ship-it service. Ubuntu will send you one for free.

https://shipit.ubuntu.com/

The other option would be to buy a CD.

You can also contact your local LUG(linux user group) and I am sure that someone there will be able to help you out. Please have a look at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GettingUbuntu for more options.

I have also been to two libraries that had the software available for checkout, so that may be an option for you.

Best Regards,

You can request that the appropriate Ubuntu CD is sent to you via the ShipIt scheme, this is available at: https://shipit.ubuntu.com/.

This means you can install from CD, and get a copy without a burner.

All the best,
