no drivers for gigabyte 9500 gt so cant get advanced graphics

can only get basic screen and cannot find drivers that will work gigabyte nividia 9500 gt

The trouble is that many manufacturers don't bother making drivers for Linux and so you may be forced to have to buy a new graphics card if you want compositing (advanced graphics) on ubuntu, however first lets make sure this is the case.

Open up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and type in

gksudo apt-get install envyng-core envyng-gtk

Then enter you password in the dialog that pops up. This will install Envy, a program that helps you install drivers for your graphics cards. Once that has finished, go to Applications > System Tools > EnvyNG

Then follow the on screen instructions (make sure to select install the NVIDIA Driver, and if envy can find a driver for your card it will be installed, otherwise I am afraid you won't be able to get compositing.

I had to get rid of the card as envy crashed the system and i had to reinstall ubuntu got a asus en 8600gt instead and seems to work fine but still cant get advanced only extras. got any ideas thank you
