You have an error on the /etc/apt/sources.list file.

Open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Copy and paste the some row from the beginning of this file and paste here.

Im new to linux so im not sure what to do i used sudo gedit /ect/apt/sources.list and now i get a blank page .Im not sure what to do now

Please close and don't save it.

Ok ive used sudo gedit /ect/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list and have a blank page
under the name medibuntu

You have a typo in your path...

it should say "etc".

Many thanks for all the help. It turns out i had a typo. I had it as ect/ once i typed it in as etc it fixed the problem
