Blank Screen at Log-In

Asked by Jeremy

Hi, I have an inherited Sony Vaio that is probably about 4 years old. I installed Ubuntu and it worked great, but since I installed the nvidia graphics accelerator driver the log-in screen goes completely blank. I can hear the sound effect and even log-in, but the screen still remains blank. I tried using some of the other suggestions throughout the forum, but with no success. Please help me!

I assume you have Hardy. The following will probably wipe out Nvidia. Don't boot into your normal kernel. Boot into Recovery. That has an option which says something like "Try to recover XServer." Use that
