ubuntu install

Asked by Luilef

I have installed the Ubuntu version that runs from the CD but would like to do the full install.
My pc has a partitioned hard drive. D: and E: The D: is for Windows and I have allocated for Ubuntu use. I installed the version that runs from the CD on the E:. My Question arrises when I go through the full installation process.

At installation step 4 of 7 it asks where I want to install Ubuntu so that it can format the drive for its use. I have know idea if I should choose the first option to partition (in case it partitions my E:) or the second option that says to use the whole drive to format (in case it formats my whole hard drive and I also loose Windows)

My question is. When I choose the 2nd option does it only format my E: and install Ubuntu on it leaving my Windows drive D: unchanged?

You could boot up to Windows first and then stick in the Ubuntu CD. (possibly need to run setup off the CD if autorun does not work)

This will install Ubuntu in the same partition as Windows and provide it as a boot option when Windows boots.

It's an easier option for you as a starting point.
If you become more familiar with Ubuntu and want to proceed further with a full install that will then be based on the fact that you have used it and are happy with the functionality it offers.

Can you help with this problem?
