Hi

Like most HP printers, the P1006 works with Linux, although perhaps not perfectly. See

http://openprinting.org/show_printer.cgi?recnum=HP-LaserJet_P1006

To configure it, go to System > Administration > Printing. Make sure the printer is connected and switched on and choose 'New Printer'.

If that doesn't work, try the Generic instructions for CUPS in the above link.

If this solves your problem, please let us know.

I tried both ways above and neither of them worked. The computer sees my printer in the usb but still isn't printing.

Try the instructions at:

http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/

Note that the download/install instructions seem to refer to foo2zjs.
This is correct as xqx is part of zjs (see http://foo2zjs.rkkda.com/forum/read.php?23,43,43)

I above doesn't solve you can try to install configure and use the hplip package...

http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/models/laserjet/hp_laserjet_p1006.html

How to install hplip package

First please check if you hp printer is supported by hplip http://hplipopensource.com/hplip-web/supported_devices/index.html

Then please open a Terminal from the menu Applications → Accessories → Terminal and type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install hplip

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

Then to setup hplip type:

sudo hp-setup

Hope this helps
