Install and execute Ubuntu from E drive

I am considering obtaining Ubuntu 8.04 and installing it to drive E (240+ GB drive). My C drive has one partition for my existing system running under Windows 2000 (running out of space - 4 GB free). I expect to be able to boot to either system, Windows 2000 or Ubuntu. Will I receive proper instructions for this installation and is there any specific documentation that I should be reading before starting this project?

you can later change the boot options from
/boot/grub/menu.lst
