need to remove startup black dualboot screen

Asked by JAMES on 2008-08-27

I tried ubuntu from cd as a trial on second computer. Now I want to discontinue using ubuntu on that machine. Without disk at startup, black screen still gives options for windows/ubuntu. I tried removing with FIXMR but this did not work. How can I restore original screen for windows xp only?
It appears to involve a system 32 file.

Pop in your XP install CD, and get to a recovery console..

Type

fixboot

then

fixmbr

and this should do it for you.

I followed your suggestion answering y to both questions but I still get the 2 option screen. Since the ubuntu install disc created this problem it should have a resource to fix it.
Thanks for your help hope you can suggest something else.

solved problem with sequence
START - RUN - sysdm.cpl - Advanced - startup & recovery - setting -
system startup - edit
I then deleted last line referring to ubuntu.
