wireless lan not working

i used ubuntu 7.10 and could not connect to my wireless network without any passwords or encryptions. i could see the network but it wouldn't connect or browse. help!.

The main thing is to determine what chipset your wireless network card has, then figure it out from there.

You should open a terminal window (Applications menu, Accessories) and type one of the following...

If you have a USB wireless card then try this

lsusb

or if it's an internal (PCI) card try

lspci | grep Ethernet

Also, what is the wireless network type you are connecting to Open, WEP or WPA?
