Ubuntu won't finish downloading.

Asked by ioubigg

Hi, for the past few weeks I've been trying to get an old Win98 computer up and running. I've reformatted the hard drive and everything (I'm kinda messin' with it to learn more) but anyway it doesn't have an OS and so a friend told me about Ubuntu and I downloaded it (ver. 8.04.1 Desktop) and it will start the installation but will not finish. I can figure the rest out if I just get the desktop up and it stop right as the desktop loads (not even 1 toolbar shows). Anyway if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated. Also if someone needs to know more I'll see what I can do. =P Thanks to all!!!!! (Yes I'm a newbi to all computer stuff laugh all you want but it's how it is =P).

I'd recommend you get the "Alternate" cd by hitting the checkbox here and downloading

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download

The install from that.
