how do i find the webcam

i have my laptop and i bought a webcam with it, which is built in, but i cannot seem to find how i can get on to it, there is no clear way of useing it! the webcam flashes whenever the laptop turns on but i cannot use i dont no what to do?

Firstly, I'd suggest that you install Cheese, and attempt to use the camera there. If the drivers are loaded, it should "just work".

If it does not work in Cheese, I can help you figure out what to do if you do the following:

1) Open up a terminal (Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)
2) Run the following command: sudo lsusb -v
3) Supply the output of the mentioned command.

I would also like to add that if you want to use the webcam with MSN, you need to install a client which supports it. Pidgin does not (as far as I know).

amsn is an example which will work. amsn is installable from the Ubuntu repositories - just use synaptic or Add/Remove Applications.
