Suddently pc doesn't connect to wireless

Asked by Wovarine

Hi,
i have a pc with ubuntu (and windows xp in dual boot), a wireless internet key and a router.

I successfully installed my internet wireless key and configured it for my wireless connection. Untill 2 weeks ago i used internet perfectly but when i turned on another pc with windows xp and connected it to internet, the pc with ubuntu stopped to connect to my router.

If i use or not the other pc, the pc with ubuntu can't connect to my wireless connection. I see the icon trying to connect to my wireless but the stops.

I thought it was the key, but if i open xp at the boot if function perfectly. I tought it was bad configured my connection but for what i know the parameters are correct. It began when i connected another pc to wireless and now even if the ubuntu is the only one on, it can't connect.

Thanks for every answer

P.s.
Sorry if my english isn't perfect, i'm not english

Have you check both the PCs to see if either (or both) have fixed IP addresses?

I'm sure that the one with windows xp hasn't a fixed ip adress.

The one with ubuntu also han't a fixed ip adress (for what i can see from connection information). It's very strange...also because if the ubuntu pc would have a fixed one it could not connect alone in any case, am i wrong?

Please try to disable ipv6...

Howto disable ipv6

Please use this official method to disable ipv6 https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WebBrowsingSlowIPv6IPv4

In short, open Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type

sudo sh -c 'echo blacklist ipv6 >> /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.local'

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

The above command appends a line to the local blacklist configuration. The file will be created if it does not exist.

To restart your computer, type:

sudo reboot

Hope this helps

Then try also to:
1) Complete switch off the router...
2) Complete switch off the Ubuntu/win pc ...
3) Start the router...
4) Start Ubuntu...

Try...

Hope this helps

To increase Firefox speed try this little http://www.elart.it/mozilla/speedup.php

Then you can play also with:
your DNS servers address setup by change them and putting the OpenDns server
and/or try to find best MTU setting for your connection.
