configuring internet with broadband connection

mines is a wireless lan connection from local net services.........its just like a brodband connection which just needs user name and password in xp to get connected ..........currently i have net working in my xp but i need it in ububntu ,..........what to do please ehelp meeeeeee

im amanulla shaik from india.im a student.i have been working with xp from 2 years.....now im intersted in using linux.......i prefered ubuntu 7 .......2 months back but till now im unable to configure net connection in it please help me...

actually my hard disk is 160 GB i hv installed ubuntu 7 in free space.......... if u want any additional information i may provide u pls help meee
REGARDING MY INTERNET CONNECTION
its from a local service provider(pioneer)
in xp it just needs username and password to connect..........like broad-band..........my mail ids <email address hidden>

i have a wireless box arranged on the upstairs of my home..........its being connected to my system via a cable as similar to a landline phone

lspci

Personally, I'd get yourself a router - the router can handle the broadbadn connection - you can then use a basic Ethernet connection from there..

Or wifi...
