Averatec 3700 stuck in 800x600 res

I just installed ubuntu on my AV3715-EH1 Averatec series 3700 laptop and I am unable to change the resolution from 800x600 to a higher resolution.
Please help!!

Sorry , System > Preferences > Screen Resolution
