Connecting external LCD monitor (ViewSonic VG2030WM 20" 1680x1050) to my Dell Inspiron 710m laptop in Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft.

Asked by sasha_511

Hi, I have Ubuntu 6.10 Edgy Eft installed on my 12" Dell Inspiron 710m notebook which I use at a resolution of 1280x800. I am trying to connect it to 20" widescreen ViewSonic VG2030WM monitor (resolution 1680x1050). I tried various ways by googling but no success. How can I connect it to my external monitor? If I connect to both notebook screen as well as external screen, I can get at best 1280x800 resolution????? Is it possible that when I connect it to external monitor, I see output only on external monitor so that I get full 1680x1050 resolution?
Thanks a lot.

Most portables have an special/function key to change the default screen. My has one and it's ok with external screens.

Can you help with this problem?
