Ubuntu 8.04.1 will not create partition on a Win XP hard drive
I am attempting to install release 8.04.1 on a Windows XP laptop with a 40gb hard drive. I ran defrag under windows and then ran chkdsk /f. I then booted off the Ubuntu CD image. The installation routine begins normally until it suggests the disk partioning. It recommends 26gb for the existing windows and associated files. It recommends the remaining 14gb for ubuntu installation. I selected FORWARD and the partioner began. Almost immediately, I received the error message "Too small size". I then moved the slider over on the pattition map page to slightly change the size of the siggested partition. After clicking on FORWARD, the partioner began and after a few seconds the error message "Reize Operation Failure" appeared. I checked the integrity of the CD image, and I ran disk analyzer under windows. No abnormalities showed up. I welcome any suggestions for a successfull dual boot installation.
