ext3 / ext2 partition

What is difference between ext3 and ext2 partition and which is best and why? i am new on Linux and i don't know even abc of Linux. i wana know the complete information about the Linux partitions . help me please.

Journaling is the key difference.

Ext2 is the original filesystem used by linux. (we'll ignore minux)
Pro: It's safe, fast, and reliable.
Con: It's not journaled so if you crash, or power cycle it needs a long process to check the disk.

Ext3 is the next generation filesystem used by linux. It's fully compatible with ext2. So an ext3 filesystem can be mounted as ext2, and the reverse.
Pro: It's safe, and reliable. A crash, or power off recovers very quickily.
Con: It's slower than ext2, but not by much any more.
