[feisty] Latest update breaks Graphical GDM login, themes, many icons are missing

Asked by Brian Ealdwine

Since my latest update, which included some gnome stuff and a new kernel (I don't figure it's the kernel), GDM gives me an error popup message stating:

"Couldn't recognize the image file format for file: '/usr/share/gdm/themes/HumanList/background.png'"

..it does this for the theme I was using prior, which worked fine prior, and for humanlist, and probably for others, though I haven't tried.

Also, ~/.xsession-errors is filled with various errors about the mysteries of how to load a .png (I can't blame it, I have a terrible time rendering .png files from binary, myself).

Anywho, I'm guessing this is an incompatible libpng or some other incompatibility introduced by the new update.

..any idea when it can be fixed/worked on?

Hello !

As Feisty is in a test phase, it will be difficult for the support to help, as the system can just be unpredictable ...

I think you should have a look at the bugs to see if there is something about it. And if no, file a bug ...

Regards,
Benoît

I went into the dpkg log for the upgrade, and used it to reconfigure all of the recently installed packages:

sudo dpkg-reconfigure ubuntu-minimal ubuntu-standard beagle-backend-evolution libgtk2.0-common libgtk2.0-bin beagle beryl-plugins-data desktop-effects emerald-themes feisty-gdm-themes feisty-session-splashes

..and that seems to have fixed it.
