Nvidia 7800 GS driver

Asked by Robert G McCoy

Installed 8.04.1 LTS successfully last night but have a small issue with the video. I have the Nvidia 7800 GS, 256 mb, AGP with dual digital outputs. I use a Samsung Syncmaster 216BW LCD connected directly and the Syncmaster 955DF CRT connected through a gender changer. When I enable the nvidia driver to get something better than the 800x600 redolution, the feed will only go to the CRT and offeres no options other than 800x600 and 640x480. If I disable the driver, it will go back to the LCD but again, only offer the two resolution above.

The CRT is a 17" and the LCD is a 21.6 widescreen that is capable of 1080p but I only want to run closer to the capability I have in XP Pro - 1680x1050

What do I need to do to accomplish this?

BTW, running Ubuntu with in the windows environment

Thanks for any assistance offered.

I have the same card. I installed restricted driver and also the package nvidia-settings. This gives a great amount of settings.
Afterwards start nvidia-settings and get your screens running.

Can you help with this problem?
